Layer Elementary School resides on property which backs up to the beautiful Spring Hammock Preserve. Our goal is to restore this wetland habitat by removing invasive/exotic plants and cleaning up the environment. It is paramount that students are taught the interdependence of plants and animals and the delicate balance of life within an ecosystem. Our hope is that they learn to be good stewards of their community and understand our impact on planet earth.
In order to achieve this, we must provide learning opportunities within our school backyard. We are thankful to the various organizations, community partners, staff, and parent community who are helping to make our vision a reality. Please see our Feb 09 newsletter insert.
We invite all stakeholders to participate by contributing comments, suggestions, photos, and information to help build this site as a collaborative resource for our community. Please request a wiki account so that you can contribute.

This is a great project. My son Ethan and I were up at Central Winds Park the other day and he was telling me all about Saw Palmettos. My jaw dropped, he has really learned a lot about nature. Thanks for putting this project together. Sean Woosley
